"Hello." She looked up at the shimmering form of her father. "How did you get here?"

"I rarely forget the way to a place, once I've been there." Loki smiled. "Hela, my beautiful daughter, your realm is delightful as always-"

"Just spit it out, Father."

The Trickster chuckled. "I need two favors."

Hela scowled. "What makes you think I will grant them?"

"That saddens me, daughter." Loki grasped his chest dramatically. "Will you not even hear me out?"

"Fine." Loki lowered his head and looked at Hela with his deadly puppy eyes that had slaughtered many before, not sparing Odi

"You know, when you said you wanted to complete at least one mission with us," Tony said as he ducked and Loki zapped a row of aliens over Tony's head, "this wasn't quite what I had in mind."

When Thor and Loki had been younger, Thor had once ripped his favorite stuffed toy clean into half in a particularly violent playtime. While Loki had taken much amusement in seeing the Golden Prince bawl his head off, the crying quickly became annoying. Loki had nonchalantly grabbed the remains of the toy, and mended the two halves together with magic.

Thor almost went into a fit, laughing through tears and hugging the toy so tight it almost tore again.

It was almost a repeat of the incident. Except this time there was no toy, just a defenceless, magic-less, half-his-normal-size Loki.

Tony hefted Clint off his shoulders and set him down on the marble floor of the Avengers Tower kitchen, as gently as his suit would allow. The titanium helmet mask slid back, letting Tony have an unobstructed view of his fallen comrade.

"Hey, don't you dare die on us." Tony bit his lip. He'd evacuated Pepper and everyone else in the tower. All the medics too. Genius move, Tony. He swore. In the middle of a war and you just sent off all the doctors to God-knows-where.

Natasha burst through the staircase doorway, headed straight for the archer and knelt by his side. She didn't even look tired.

"Where are the others?"

Odin had seen what had happened two nights before. Loki had betrayed Thanos, joined forces with the Avengers, and all was well. He'd prepared for a celebration when his sons returned. A huge party that would have put Thor's coronation ceremony to shame. Everyone would join, would whoop as the seven saviors of the universe strode proudly in through the gates. There would be a feast, and perhaps, for once, everyone's attention would be on the younger brother.

Hey, what's that on your hand?" Tony asked, as Loki jerked his hand away from Tony's.

The God turned quickly away from Tony. "Oh, just a-" He searched for the word. Clint had told him about it while the former was under his mind control. "-a tattoo. Clint and Nat made me get one just now." Loki would deal with the consequences later. Right now, he had to leave before Tony found out.

As Loki moved towards the door, he felt a hand grip his long-sleeved shirt tightly.

"Clint and Natasha are on a mission." Tony squinted at Loki. "In New Mexico. "

"I should have known."

"Oh, yes. You should have, Stark." Loki smiled humorlessly.

It was almost impossible to tell that the bubbly laughing boy who had played prank after prank on them just a few days ago was now the empty, cold shell before him.

Tony cursed himself. How could he have ever thought that Loki's mentality would remain like his child form.

"This seems to be the fatal flaw of you heroes , does it not? You trust far too much."

"But why?" Thor's hand trembled around Mjölnir, the desperation clear in his voice. "You remember, don't you, Brother? You've regained your memories-"

"Footage here shows what is left of the swimming complex after the Avengers left." The television screen switched to pictures of devastated rubble, and a big block of ice that hadn't seemed to melt during the night at all.

Bruce coughed awkwardly. Tony turned off the tv.

"Sir, Director Nick Fury is on the telephone."

"Put him on speaker."

All the Avengers jumped when Nick's voice blared through the speakers.

"-out of the country for just ONE day, and I come back to find that you have blown up a swimming complex!"

Tony quickly shut down the phone.

"Wanna take bets on how long we can stay outside without being mobbed by the reporters?" C

It took the Avengers about a few seconds to realize they were completely naked but for a towel wrapped around their legs.

Honestly, Tony thought, of all the places they could have been when the Chitauri attacked, they had to be in a bathhouse.

At least Natasha had a few guns in her outfit. That woman had guns everywhere. Tony spotted her taking down three Chitauri as he and the other two led the screaming crowd out of the building. Suddenly, there was an explosion of pain in the back of his head as something hit him. His knees buckled and he collapsed into a corner.

Loki's uneasy sleep was riddled with baffling dreams, some familiar, all painful.

At first, there were only sounds. Voices. Voices belonging to people whom he unfortunately knew quite well. But the words they spoke made no sense.

A/N: I keep telling myself that I'm setting the scene and preparing for the ending, but I think I'm just trying to drag this as long as I can. So yeah, Loki lives for another chapter.

"These bastards just don't know when to give up," Tony groaned, his labored panting audible from even within his helmet. "Jesus, this time we don't even know where they're coming from."

Lightning tore across the sky and the ever-so familiar sound of thunder rattled the windows. The room was cold, and despite his ancestry, Loki detested the cold very much. He could almost feel the icy blue blood running through his veins-

"What happened?!" Loki cringed at the sound of the door slamming open and the man's loud, loud voice, but even though the noise made his headache spike painfully, Clint's voice was warmly familiar. It wasn't so cold anymore.

"He'll be fine." Tony mumbled. "It's all going to be fine-"

The constantly buzzing heart-rate monitor suddenly went flat, with a long, drawn beep.

If today was your last day,
And tomorrow was too late?

For one terrifying moment, everything went black. Loki scrabbled at the metal in his right arm, right above his wrist. It was only thousands of years of experience that allowed Loki stay calm. Loki forced himself to take deep breaths, sending tendrils of magic to his arm.

It wasn't a very bad wound, no essential arteries of nerves were cut, and Loki's heart rate slowed. It seemed that Thanos was only attacking as a last ditch effort.
